WESTPORT, Conn. -- A construction worker was charged with stealing packages from a Westport home in December, according to police.
Sidney Nelson, 43, of Meriden was charged with fifth-degree larceny. He posted a $5,000 bond and will appear in court on Jan. 26.
The arrest stems from an incident in December when a resident reported that packages were stolen from their home. Police said that home surveillance footage showed Nelson's vehicle parked in the driveway of the residence where the packages were stolen from. Nelson was employed by a construction company doing work in Westport at the time, according to police.
Westport detectives were able to track Nelson down and interview him about the video, police said. Nelson confessed to the theft of packages, and further admitted to multiple other package thefts in Westport and Fairfield, police said. The total worth of the items stolen in Westport was $810, according to police.
A warrant was issued for Nelson's arrest and he turned himself in to police on Jan. 15.
