Wrestling Coach At Staples High Charged With Fighting Outside Bar

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Officers arrested two men on charges of fighting outside Anna Liffey’s Irish Pub and Restaurant on Post Road, marking the second time in a week the police have had to intervene at the Fairfield establishment regarding unruly customers.

David Bernstein, of Henderson Road, Fairfield, and Thomas Bajdah, of Prospect Street, Stratford, were seen by an off-duty Fairfield officer scuffling in front of the pub just after midnight Jan. 3, police said.

When officers arrived, Bernstein, 28, and Bajdah, 21, were both on the ground, according to police.

According to the website for the Staples High School Wrestling Team, Bernstein is the wrestling coach at the Westport school. 

During their investigation, officers discovered Bridgeport police had a warrant for the arrest of Bernstein, police said. He was taken to Fairfield Police headquarters and processed on the unrelated motor vehicle warrant, police said.

Bajdah sustained injuries that required medical attention, and police said they transferred him to Bridgeport Hospital.

Each men was charged with breach of peace and released on a promise to appear in court Jan. 13.

Bernstein was also released on $500 bond on the Bridgeport warrant.
