NORWALK, Conn. -- A Norwalk man who tried to climb onto the roof of a hotel to elude arrest Wednesday was charged with robbing the First County Bank on Westport Avenue last Thursday, police said.

Isaiah Gary, 32, was charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree larceny. He was being held on $200,000 bond.

The robbery occurred shortly after 10 a.m Thursday, July 17. According to police, Gary entered the bank and handed the teller a note before fleeing the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No weapons were displayed in the incident, and nobody was injured. Police later identified the robber as a person known to frequent the area on a red bicycle.

An officer in the Norwalk Police Special Services Division received information Wednesday that Gary was in a vehicle behind the Norwalk Westport Motel on Westport Avenue up the road from the bank that was robbed.

Officers responded to the area shortly after 11:30 a.m. and located Gary, who attempted to elude offices by climbing on the roof of the motel, according to police reports. He was taken into custody moments later without further incident, police said.
