Deondre Bowden was also charged with criminal possession of a pistol, possession of a pistol without a permit, theft of a firearm and credit card theft. He was held on $1 million bond.

Lawane Toles, 43, of New Haven, was found dead, shot to the head, shortly before 9:30 p.m. May 24 on Railroad Avenue.

Bridgeport police picked up Bowden when he was found driving around in Toles’ red Hyundai Sonata six days later, the Post said.

Police later intercepted a letter Bowden sent from the Bridgeport Correctional Center to a friend, asking the friend to retrieve a bag from his home in Washington Village in Norwalk, the Connecticut Post said.

Detectives got a search warrant for the Norwalk home and found a .44-caliber handgun, the Post said.
