WESTPORT, Conn. — A North Haven man was charged with illegal transfer of a firearm after a woman was found sitting in a car with a gun she didn’t own in March, police said.
Nicolas Cappiello, 38, of Chapel Hill Road, turned himself in to police Thursday. He posted a $10,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 12.
The arrest stems from a March 24 incident, in which a Trumbull woman was arrested when she was found sitting in her car with a gun on Lilac Lane around midnight, police said.
Detectives continued to investigate who owned the firearm, which led them to Cappiello, police said. He told officers he gave the gun to the Trumbull woman to keep in her house.
He was arrested on a warrant when he turned himself in, police said.
