WESTPORT, Conn. New Haven resident Luis Solano was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, and other violations, after police say he almost caused a head-on collision in Westport Sunday morning.
Solano, 29, was spotted driving northbound on Saugatuck Avenue at a slow speed, drifting over the double yellow line, police said. At the intersection of Saugatuck Avenue and the I-95 southbound on-ramp, Solano stopped in the left-turn only lane. Instead of making the turn, Solano continued through the intersection and fully crossed the double yellow line, almost hitting a car traveling southbound on Saugatuck Avenue, the police report states.
Once Solano was stopped, the officer smelled alcohol on his breath and noticed Solano could not keep his head steady, according to the police report. Solanos eyes were reportedly bloodshot and his speech was slurred, police said.
Solano was unable to complete field sobriety tests and the breath tests, according to the report. In addition to driving under the influence, he was charged with failure to drive right and operating under suspension. He was released after posting a $1,000 bond and is due in court on June 20.
