New Haven Man Face Drug Charges After Westport Traffic Stop

WESTPORT, Conn. -- A New Haven man faces drug possession charges after he was arrested in Westport on Friday, police said.

Charles Covington, 38, was driving on Duck Pond Road when he was stopped by police, authorities said.

Police said that the officer, who reported smelling the odor of marijuana, investigated further and found that one of the vehicle’s occupants was in possession of 24 small bags of marijuana, 38 narcotic pills, and $2,285 in cash.

Covington was subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance, police said.

He later posted a $5,000 bond and is to appear in court on Tuesday, Dec. 1, police said.
