WESTPORT, Conn. — High-end handbags and jewelry believed to have been stolen by a household's nanny were recovered by police after the victim spotted the items on Facebook, Westport Police said.
The former nanny -- Lucy Pedroza, aka Lucy Chieco and Lucerito Pedroza, 52, of Stamford -- turned herself in March 7 after learning of an active warrant for her arrest.
A Westport resident reported in August 2013 that multiple high-end handbags and jewelry items had been stolen from her residence between April 2011 and July 2013, police said. The victim said she believed her babysitter was responsible for the thefts and terminated her employment.
The victim contacted Westport detectives in December 2015 and advised that she had located a Facebook profile for the nanny, Lucy Pedroza, police said. In viewing the suspect’s online photographs, the victim was reportedly able to identify the suspect wearing many of her stolen items.
The Westport Police Detective Bureau secured a search warrant for Pedroza’s apartment in Stamford. During their search, detectives recovered over 30 handbags, clothing items and jewelry believed to be stolen from the Westport victim.
Pedroza was charged with second-degree larceny and released on a March 17 Norwalk Court date after posting a $10,000 bond.
