The fire department was called to the scene at about 8:20 a.m., Assistant Fire Chief Larry Conklin said in a statement. To free the truck, firefighters had to cut a portion of the truck’s top off. From there, a tow truck helped to remove the truck from under the bridge, Conklin said.
The roadway was completely closed until about 9:10 a.m., and trains traveling on Track 3 were slowed to 15 mph to allow firefighters to work from the bridge, above the truck, Conklin said.
In addition to Westport firefighters, Westport police and representatives from Metro-North were on the scene, Conklin said.
“As a reminder to all truck operators, know the height of your vehicle and take note of the bridge height restrictions prior to passing under them,” he said in a the statement.
