More Crashes On Connecticut Roads Over Holiday Weekend

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Connecticut State Police reported an increase in car accidents on state highways for Memorial Day compared with last year, but there were no fatalities on the roads.

Troopers patrolled highways and roads in Connecticut from early Friday until late Monday night. Traffic over the entire weekend was moderate to heavy, state police said.

State troopers this year investigated:  

  • 301 motor vehicle accidents. 
  • 54 accidents with reported injuries.
  • No fatal accidents.

Troopers issued the following:

  • Speeding violations: 1,248.
  • Seat belt violations: 954.
  • Hazardous moving violations: 4,142.
  • Arrests on DWI charges: 54.

State police across Connecticut will continue enforcement operations over the summer, when traffic increases.

For Memorial Day weekend 2013, state police reported 281 accidents, two fatal accidents, 1,941 speeding violations, 718 seat belt violations,4,294 hazardous moving violations and 57 DWI arrests.
