One suspect arrested was Brian Anthony Carriero, 18, who is a volunteer firefighter in Monroe, where he lives. A 17-year-old male was also arrested, but was not identified because he is a juvenile, police said.

At 3:23 a.m. March 18, Newtown police received a 911 call from a home on Elizabeth Street reporting a dispute, police said.

When officers arrived, the resident reported that two men had broken into the home and physically assaulted her companion by punching the victim in the face, police said.

The suspects were known to the victims and were later located and arrested.

"Our officers responded promptly, aided the assault victim, and tracked down the offenders, both which were arrested without further incident," Newtown police said in a statement. "This was an isolated incident, and no additional arrest are expected."

Carriero wouldn't turn himself in, but police learned that he was attending a firefighter training course at the Long Hill Fire Co. at 14 Meadow Road in Trumbull.

Newtown officers went there, removed him from the class and placed him under arrest, police said.

Each suspect was charged with first-degree burglary, disorderly conduct and third-degree assault.

Carriero, of 94 Hillside Lane, Monroe, was released on $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear Monday in court in Danbury. No further information was released on the juvenile suspect.
