Man Injured By Boat Propeller In Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – A 21-year-old man was seriously injured in Westport after he was struck by a boat propeller and another man was charged with drunken boating in the accident, police said.

At approximately 5:25 p.m. Saturday, police received a call from a passenger on a vessel en route to Compo Beach that another passenger had been hit by one of the boat’s propellers, Lt. John Pitoniak said in a release.

The Westport Police Marine Division met the vessel at the Ned Dimes Marina and the victim, an unidentified male, was treated by Westport EMS. He transported to Norwalk Hospital with “serious injuries to his lower extremities,” Pitoniak said.

The operator of the vessel at the time of the accident, 21-year-old Cyrus Hussein Fardoust of Rockville, Md., was arrested and charged with reckless operation of a vessel while under the influence. He was being held on a $10,000 bond, Pitoniak said.

The vessel, a 26-foot Sea Ray Sun Deck, is registered out of Westport. The accident was being investigated by the Westport Marine Division.
