Police responded to an apartment complex on High Street at around 5 a.m. on Friday on a report of an emotionally disturbed person who had barricaded himself inside, police said. There was a heavy police presence at the scene, and parts of High Street and nearby Factory Lane were closed off.
Adjacent apartments were also evacuated as a precaution, police said on Twitter.
At around 8 a.m., police were able to gain entry to the apartment, and found the 50-year-old man dead, police said. The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner, police said. At this point the streets and building were reopened to the public.
The Connecticut Post reported that police said that the man committed suicide.
