The incident began Saturday, Sept. 12, when a Westport Police Officer on routine patrol saw a vehicle in the downtown area operating erratically and in an aggressive manner, police said.

As the officer followed the vehicle, he saw the suspect drive up behind another vehicle occupied by a woman and man and twice yell at the vehicle and wave a baseball bat, motioning at the other motorist, police said.

The suspect then drove alongside the other vehicle, yelling and waving the bat inside his car, police said.

Finally, the suspect pulled in front of the motorist, stopped his vehicle, put the bat in his left hand out the window and waved it at the same vehicle, police said.

The officer went to make contact with the suspect and saw the aluminum bat on the front passenger seat, police said.

The driver, identified as Allan Blumenfeld, had no reasonable explanation for having the bat in the front seat, police said.

Blumenfeld was arrested and charged with weapons in a vehicle, threatening and breach of peace. He posted $500 bond and was issued a court date of Sept. 22.
