The accident was reported at 9:30 a.m., Assistant Fire Chief Larry Conklin said. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle were not injured in the crash, he said. The cause of the accident was being investigated.
Responding firefighters stabilized the garage, allowing a tow truck to pull the vehicle out without causing further collapse, said Conklin. The Westport building official was called to the scene and the garage was deemed unusable, he said.
“Whenever a building is compromised, feel free to call the fire department or the local building official to help assess the damage and structural stability,” Conklin said. “Officials can also assist you with the proper notifications to be made to other agencies.”
