Illegal Gun Possession Probe Leads To Westport Drug Arrests

WESTPORT, Conn. – Two teens were charged with drug possession in Westport after police received information from Staples High School administrators that a student may have been in illegal possession of a firearm, police said.

At approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday, Staples administrators contacted police regarding a student who was believed to be in illegal possession of a gun at a home on Lockwood Circle, police said.

When officers arrived at the home, two males fled on foot into a wooded area nearby, leading officers on a chase, police said. A perimeter was set up in the area and Westport and Fairfield K-9 units responded, police said.

Inside the home, officers saw narcotics and drug paraphernalia in plain view, the police report said. These items were believed to belong to the two men who fled, police said.

Police said the males were later found and identified as Westport resident Steven Shulman, 18, of Ludlow Road, and Southport resident Michael Lynch, 19.

Officers and detectives later determined that a resident of the home was in legal possession of a firearm, according to the report. The gun was found not to have been in possession of anyone else, police said.

Shulman and Lynch were charged with interfering with an officer, possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. They were released on promises to appear at Norwalk Superior Court.
