WESTPORT, Conn. – The resident of a home on Tamarac Road in Westport was not harmed Friday night after a fire erupted in the bedroom, Assistant Fire Chief John Plofkin Jr. reported.

When firefighters arrived at the home at 8:45 p.m., they were met by flames coming out of a second-floor bedroom window. The homeowner was already out, but two cats and two dogs were still inside. All four pets were rescued by firefighters, Plofkin said.

Firefighters knocked out the flames with one hose line, Plofkin said. All on-duty firefighters responded, and there were no injuries.

Wilton firefighters were also called as part of an automatic mutual aid agreement, and Fairfield firefighters provided coverage at fire headquarters, he said. All fire units cleared the scene before 10:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation by the fire marshal’s office. The homeowner, Plofkin said, made arraignments to spend the night with family.
