WESTPORT, Conn. — A 55-year-old homeless man stole money from a tip jar and threatened to kill the cashier at SoNo Baking Company Sunday morning before fleeing the Church Lane scene on a bicycle, police said.
Officers caught up with Dave Phillips, who said he spent the money on cigarettes, at Gillespie Center on Jesup Road, police said.
He was charged with threatening, disorderly conduct and sixth-degree larceny, police said. He was held on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 12.
