James Hayes, 33, of Waterbury, also known as "T.Y." was sentenced to 72 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, according to Deirdre M. Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
On June 16, 2016, Monroe Police and EMS responded to a home on a report of a heroin overdose and found an unresponsive 32-year-old woman on the floor of her bedroom. She was pronounced dead shortly after. Investigators seized several items from the bedroom, including empty wax folds and one wax fold that contained heroin.
Police identified Hayes as the person who sold the heroin to the woman, and arrested him on Aug. 22. On Jan. 20, he pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of heroin.
Hayes was also ordered to forfeit $710 in cash that was seized from him during his arrest.
