A white woman who appeared to be about 40 entered the bank branch and displayed a firearm and demanded cash, Lt. Kraig Gray said in a statement.

The teller complied, and the suspect left without incident with an undetermined amount of cash, Gray said.

No one was injured. Gray said no customers were in the bank at the time of the robbery.

The suspect was described as an approximately 40-year-old white woman, short and weighing about 100 pounds with dark hair in a pixie cut, and wearing sunglasses and a dark peacoat. She can be seen in a bank surveillance photo holding the gun over the counter at a teller.

Greenwich police officers are at the scene of the bank robbery Friday afternoon, with squad cars parked out front. The branch is closed for business as the investigation continues.

The FBI has been called and notified of the bank robbery.

"It is an overlapping jurisdiction. The larceny that took place is a crime both locally and federally," Gray said.

Anyone with any information or may have been in the area from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday is asked to contact the Greenwich Police Department's tipline at 203-622-3333 or 800-372-1176 or via email at tips@greenwichct.org.
