Officer David Perez, 41, is the department’s newest member, police said.

Before he was hired by the Westport Police Department, Perez had been an officer with the West Haven Police Department from November 1999 until January 2014. He was assigned to the patrol division, street crimes unit and detective bureau during his tenure there.

Perez left West Haven to take a position with the Nashville Metro Police Department in January 2014. He worked there until he was selected by the Westport Police Department and decided to return to Connecticut.

The hiring of Perez fills a vacancy created by a retirement in May and brings the department to full strength, according to police.
