After receiving the warning, Fairfield police formed a search team to look for Jelani Lemon, 21, of Bridgeport, who was wanted on an active arrest warrant in Westport, police said.

The search team, put together by Fairfield Police Sgt. Hector Irizarry, identified Lemon's car -- a white Pontiac Grand AM -- in a parking lot on Tunxis Hill Road, police said.

When Lemon returned to the car, officers ordered him to the ground and handcuffed him, police said. A search of the car turned up a spent 40-caliber shell on the driver's seat, several live rounds of 9mm bullets on the floor of the passenger side and a 45-pistol in the trunk, police said.

A 42-caliber handgun was found in Lemon's front right pocket and a long straight knife in a case was found at the small of his back, police said.

At police headquarters, Lemon attempted to swallow a pill that was later tested as a generic brand of Xanax, police said. Officers attempted to retrieve the pill, but Lemon became combative, police said. Officers used a Taser to get the pill and stop him from interfering with the officers, police said.

Lemon was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, two counts of weapons in a motor vehicle, illegal possession of a controlled substance, interfering with police and tampering with evidence.

He was held on $100,000 bond and given a court date of Oct. 18.
