At around 8 p.m. on Sept. 5, an employee at The Wash Tub on Tunxis Hill Road reported an unconscious man in a running car in the parking lot, police said.
When officers arrived, they awoke the man, Gregory Fields, 44, of Fairfield Woods Road, who had slurred speech and said he drank a beer earlier in the day, police said.
Officers noticed a large knife on the passenger seat and saw a cut straw in plain view on the car’s floor, police said. On closer inspection, they found three folds of a white substance that tested positive for heroin, a second cut straw and a Alprazolam pill, police said.
There was a large amount of copper piping in the rear of the car, police said.
Fields was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for evaluation.
On Feb. 24, Fields was arrested on a warrant, while he was appearing in court on another matter, police said.
He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, use and possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance and weapons in a motor vehicle, police said.
He was held on $50,000 and was scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 24, police said.
The second warrant stems from a Nov. 21 motor vehicle incident.
Around 2:30 p.m., police said Fields rear-ended another car on Black Rock Turnpike near Stillson Road. When officers arrived, he was unconscious at the wheel and appeared pale and unresponsive, police said.
He was transported to St. Vincent's and later said he was on Xanax and prescribed morphine, police said.
Fields was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and following too close, police said.
He was held on $20,000 bond and appeared in court on Feb. 24.
No one was injured in the fender bender.
