A Kohl’s loss prevention officer called Fairfield police shortly before 4 p.m. to report a larceny in progress, police said.

He said he saw Heather Andreucci, 34, of South Avenue, choose pieces of jewelry, rip off the price tags and stuff them in her purse, police said.

He followed her outside where she tried to get in strangers’ cars waiting at a stop light at Villa Avenue and Greenfield Street, police said.

Officers found her on Pickwick Street, where she admitted to shoplifting, police said.

A search showed Andreucci had Xanax, marijuana and $857 in cash in her possession, police said.

She was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana, sixth-degree larceny and second-degree breach of peace, police said.

She was released after posting a $250 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 11.

Police said Andreucci is an ex-convict with prior convictions for armed robbery, third-degree burglary and larceny.
