Talking on a cell phone while driving is foolish, talking on a cell phone while driving and having marijuana in the car too is doubly so. A 19-year-old Westport woman was allegedly caught doing both Saturday night.
Police said the woman was pulled over for talking on her phone. When officers went to talk to her, they saw a marijuana cigarette in plain sight inside the car. A search of the car turned up a bag of marijuana and a glass pipe for smoking it.
She was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on a promise to appear in court on Feb. 1.
Also from the police blotter:
A resident at the Gillespie Center, Westport's emergency homeless shelter, was arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly leaving her small dog inside her car overnight. The reported temperature that night was 3 degrees. Police said the 70-year-old became belligerent when approached by officers at the shelter. She was charged with cruelty to animals and disorderly conduct. She was released on a promise to appear in court on Feb. 2. The dog was removed from her care and taken to an animal shelter.
