Sandra Beckford, 29, of East Hartford was issued a summons for failure to maintain a proper lane and issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions, state police said.

Beckford was heading north on I-95 at about 12:25 p.m. Monday in the left-center lane of the four-lane highway when her truck began to swerve , state police said.

About a tenth of a mile north of Exit 28, she lost control on the wet roadway, state police said.

The truck veered to the left and struck the jersey barrier in the center median on the driver's side, state police said. Then it veered back to the right and crossed all three lanes of traffic and struck the jersey barrier on the right shoulder with its front end, state police said.

It came to an uncontrolled stop, with the truck jackknifed across all four travel lanes and the cab pressed against the jersey barriers on the right shoulder, state police said.

The truck sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.

The cleanup took several hours, with state police gradually open the travel lanes one at a time. The scene was not cleared until nearly 5 p.m. Traffic jams grew throughout Monday afternoon, with reports of slowdowns as far back as through Norwalk and Westport, the state Department of Transportation said.
