Selma Spector of Ledge Road in Darien was a passenger in the Honda Pilot that rolled on the roadway and went over a guardrail down an embankment Tuesday afternoon. She was taken to Norwalk Hospital, where she died of her injuries, according to police.

The accident took place at 3:17 p.m. on Route 7 southbound between exits 1 and 2 in Norwalk. The Honda Pilot, which was driven by a 66-year-old Stamford woman, was struck from behind by a Honda Civic driven by a 21-year-old Bridgeport man. The Pilot then rolled on the roadway, over a metal guardrail and down a 75-foot embankment, becoming wedged against a tree at the edge of the Norwalk River, according to police reports.

After hitting the Pilot, the Honda Civic spun out of control and hit a Ford Eco, which was driven by a 28-year-old White Plains man with a 53-year-old passenger from White Plains. The Civic came to a rest in the grass center median and the Eco came to a rest in the left lane, police said.

Norwalk firefighters, police and EMS, and state police worked to extricate the occupants of the Honda Pilot, who were both taken to Norwalk Hospital where Spector died of her injuries. The driver of the Honda Civic was also taken to Norwalk Hospital. The occupants of the Ford Eco reported no injuries.

No charges have yet been filed in the accident, which remains under investigation by state police.
