Miguel A. Rivera, 22, was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment and breach of peace.

At 7:55 p.m. Oct. 24, state troopers from Troop H-Hartford received reports of a motorist shooting a handgun out of a moving vehicle on I-91 south between Exits 26 and 27 in Wethersfield.

The vehicle, described as a Ford Taurus, continued south on I-91 before troopers arrived, state police said.

Through the investigation, state troopers identified Rivera as the vehicle’s registered owner and a suspect in the incident.

Troopers went to Rivera’s Hartford address, however he was not there, state police said. Troopers spoke with Rivera by phone and he provided information on the shooting but would not meet with them, state police said.

Troopers later received information as to Rivera’s possible whereabouts and, along with Hartford police officers, responded to a second address in Hartford. Troopers did not find Rivera, but they did locate the Ford Taurus, state police said.

Troopers and detectives were granted a search and seizure warrant for the car.

The Taurus was seized, and troopers and detectives found an expended shell casing from Hotshot 9mm Luger inside the sunroof compartment, state police said.

They also found a live round from Hornady Luger, a .22-caliber firearm cartridge case and more than 40 live miscellaneous live rounds, state police said.

Troopers were granted an arrest warrant for Rivera. On Saturday, troopers and Hartford police officers found him at his residence on Bonner Street, took him into custody and transported him to Troop H.

Rivera was held on $150,000 bond for an appearance at Hartford Superior Court on Nov. 6.
