Car Catches Fire On Merritt In Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – A car driven by a woman from New York caught fire Tuesday night on the Merritt Parkway northbound between exits 41 and 42, Westport fire officials said.

The driver, who was alone, was not injured, Westport Fire Lt. Peter Janulis said. The fire was reported at approximately 6:15 p.m. and appears to have started between the engine compartment and dashboard, Janulis said.

When firefighters arrived, Janulis said there were heavy flames coming from the inside of the car. One lane of traffic was closed during the incident.  The scene was cleared at approximately 7:30 p.m.
