Car Catches Fire On I-95 North In Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport firefighters quickly extinguished a car that caught fire on I-95 northbound Tuesday afternoon.

The Westport Fire Department was dispatched at around 1:52 p.m. to a report of a vehicle fire on I-95 north between exits 17 and 18. The initial dispatch was for Engine 4, Engine 5 and Car 3, fire officials said.

Car 3 arrived and discovered one vehicle in the breakdown lane with an engine compartment fire. Crews from Engine 4 and Engine 5 worked quickly to extinguish the fire and provide overhaul. Two lanes of traffic were shut down during the operation.

Connecticut State Police and the Department of Transportation were on scene and assisted with traffic control. The last fire department unit cleared the scene at 2:32 p.m.
