Car Being Pursued By Police Slams Into Vehicle, Killing Driver From Seymour

A man who was fleeing police in Orange late Thursday slammed his car into another vehicle in West Haven, killing the driver, according to Connecticut State Police.

The driver of the car that was hit, Phillip Hunt, 54, of Seymour, was pronounced dead at Yale-New Haven Hospital, State Police said in a statement Friday morning.  

The crash happened at 9:55 p.m. on Meloy Road in West Haven, near Cynthia Drive.

Robert Kryzkij, 44, of East Haven, was fleeing a hit-and-run accident in Orange with Orange police in pursuit when the crash occurred, state police said. 

Kryzkij, driving a 2005 Toyota Sienna, crossed the double-yellow line, state police said. He side-swiped a Toyota Scion, then crashed head-on into the Subaru Outback driven by Hunt, state police.

Kryzkij suffered life-threatening injuries and was being treated Yale-New Haven Hospital, state police.

The Scion's driver and passenger were not hurt, police said.
