The incident began as Stamford Police Officers William Garay and Daniel DeRocco patrolled the West Side of Stamford and spotted a suspicious man in a vehicle in the parking lot at LaQuinta Hotel at 135 Harvard Ave., police said.
As DeRocco approached, he could smell marijuana emanating from the vehicle, police said. As they attempted to investigate, the suspect he pulled away, nearly striking the officer's cruiser, police said.
The suspect then struck a parked car as he fled onto Interstate 95, police said.
During the pursuit, the suspect attempted to ram the cruiser, police said. He was eventually forced to stop in the traffic, was quickly removed from the vehicle and placed into custody, police said.
Milton Marshall, 28, of Bridgeport was charged with possession of marijuana, second-degree criminal attempt at assault, engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, evading responsibility and interfering with police.
He told police he decided to run because he was on probation.
He was held on $75,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court Aug. 17.

"Their instincts and dedication to service of the Citizens of Stamford directly led to the arrest of a criminal who places very little value on the safety and well-being of others. The decision to pursue a fleeing suspect is never taken lightly. Thankfully no was injured in this incident including the suspect."
