Daquone Johnson, 24, was charged with possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin, and conspiracy to distribute heroin. Each charge carries a maximum of 20 years imprisonment, according to Deirdre M. Daly, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut and Michael J. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Agency for New England.
A 30-year-old woman was found unresponsive at a Monroe residence on May 9. She did not respond to the administration of naloxone on the scene and was pronounced dead after transportation to the hospital, officials said. Staff at the hospital located unopened heroin folds on the victim, according to officials.
The criminal complaint against Johnson alleged the victim ordered heroin from Johnson on the day of her fatal overdose, according to Daly and Ferguson. The complaint followed an investigation that included witness interviews and analysis of text messages and calls to and from the victim's phone. Johnson's arrest allegedly followed a controlled purchase of heroin from him by law enforcement, according to officials.
Johnson appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge William I Garfinkel in Bridgeport on Tuesday, June 14, and was released on a $125,000 bond.
Daly emphasized that a complaint is a charge and allegation, and not evidence of guilt.
The Drug Enforcement Administration's New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad is investigating the case, along with the Monroe, Milford and Bridgeport Police Departments.
