40th Anniversary: Stratford EMS Honors Members For Service

STRATFORD, Conn. — Stratford EMS celebrated four decades of service to the town by honoring its members in an anniversary celebration at Oronoque Country Club.

"Stratford EMS is proud to serve the Town of Stratford for the past 40 years. We look forward to continuing this time honored tradition of providing high quality EMS service to the Town of Stratford," the group said in a Facebook post.

The EMS Director’s Life Saving Citation was awarded to Parking Authority Officer Matthew White and Police Officer Maria McAvoy for providing life-saving CPR/AED to a man who collapsed in September.

White was writing a ticket in Baldwin Center when he heard shouting, and thought it was someone mad about a ticket. But he realized it was something else, ran to the nearby bocce court and saw a man had collapsed and stopped breathing.

McAvoy and White used an AED and CPR to revive the man, who had suffered a heart attack.

Stratford EMS also gave out the following awards:

  • Most Improved QA/QI: EMT John Toomey and Paramedic Alex Hawkins
  • Paramedic of the Year: Paramedic Dane Dorta
  • EMT of the Year: Jessica Archick
  • Volunteer of the Year: John Toomey
  • Rookies of the Year: EMT Chris LaCava and Ryan Kardamis
  • Dispatchers of the Year: Alexandra Gaydos and Heather Admans
  • Crew of the Year: Cate Saldier and Steve Roberts
  • Director’s Award: EMS Administrator, Kevin Giasullo
  • Critical Care Excellence Awards: Paramedic, David Rodriguez
  • Outstanding Leadership: SVEMSA President, Tom Hallas
  • Special Recognition Award: Paramedic, Sean Campbell
  • Award of Distinction: EMT Barry Kelly and EMT John Butler for 40 years of Volunteer Service
