WESTPORT, Conn. -- Two new members of the Westport Fire Department were among the 51 candidates who graduated from the Connecticut Fire Academy Recruit Program.
The graduation took place Friday, Dec. 11, at Welte Hall on the campus of Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.
Probationary Westport Firefighters Ronald Burgess and Adam Gamble were among the graduates. The two recruits will begin shift work next week in Westport.
Westport Fire Chief Andrew Kingsbury, Deputy Fire Chief Robert Kepchar and several members of the department attended the ceremony.
The Firefighter Recruit program is an intense 14-week resident course that focuses on developing the knowledge, skills and abilities of a newly hired firefighter.
An emphasis on teamwork, company morale, self-discipline, conduct and physical fitness is maintained throughout the program.
