To the Editors:
Melissa Kane was first a highly committed volunteer and then a trustee at the Westport Library during the period I was a trustee and vice president of finance. During the period following the 2008 financial crash, Melissa understood the importance of supporting the library's core mission while recognizing that town finances were under historic pressure.
Melissa strongly backed budgets that allowed the library to support job seekers, provide shelter during extensive power failures, and maintain weekend hours, while she also successfully advocated overall budget restraint.
As a resident of District 3, I was fortunate to be represented by Melissa on the RTM and was impressed by her good sense, great humor, hard work and constant outreach to her constituents. Westport needs leaders who recognize the contributions that many organizations, not just the school system, make to the quality of life in our town. Westport needs Melissa Kane as its Second Selectman.
