WESTPORT, Conn. – Wade Shavell, a former Westport real estate broker, died Nov. 7 at his home in Palm Beach, Fla. He was 51.

Shavell was a co-founding principal of Fite Shavell & Associates, which operates an office on Compo Road S. in Westport.

According to the real estate company’s website , medical reports indicate that Shavell’s death was accidental and that he slipped and struck his head, causing a fatal brain hemorrhage.

According to the Palm Beach Daily News , Shavell “endured debilitating illnesses since his teens and was a cancer survivor.”

Shavell began working in real estate at age 19. By 25, he started Riverside Shavell in Westport, where he was raised. He sold luxury properties in Connecticut and the Hamptons in New York.

After selling his firm to NRT and working for the Corcoran Group, Shavell partnered with David Fite in 2008 to form Fite Shavell & Associates in Palm Beach, Fla. The real estate company later opened its office in Westport, where his mother, Patricia, is broker and owner, according to the Mid-Fairfield County Association of Realtors.

“Wade’s passion for real estate throughout Palm Beach, Connecticut and the Hamptons, was steadfast and palpable within each community,” a Fite Shavell & Associates press release said.

Shavell is survived by his parents, Patricia and Steven Shavell; two sisters, Cathy Shavell and Leslie Juergens; a brother-in-law, Michael Juergens; a niece and a nephew.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, at Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach, with Rabbi Michael Resnick officiating. Interment will follow at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens in Boynton Beach, Fla.

A memorial service in Connecticut will be scheduled at a future date.
