Susan Wynkoop, 60, Of Westport, Retired FBI Agent

WESTPORT, Conn. - Susan Walton Wynkoop of Westport died April 7. She was 60.

Wynkoop was born in Huddleston, Va., to Margaret Saunders Walton and Wyatt Henry Walton, Jr. She was a graduate of Stanton River High School and Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va., majoring in Sociology.

After working four years at Wachovia Bank in Winston-Salem, she was recruited to join the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She was one of the first 200 female agents at the FBI. After training at Quantico in criminal law, investigative techniques, firearms and defensive tactics, she began her active service. She was the first female FBI agent inducted into the New York City Police Department Honor Legion as a law enforcement officer . She was a member of the Southport Congregational Church, serving on the Board of Deacons for most of the last decade, and serving as the chair of deacons in 2004.

Wynkoop is survived by her husband, Morgan Magee ("Dutch") Wynkoop; daughter, Katherine Saunders Wynkoop; mother, Margaret Saunders Walton of Huddleston, Va.; sister, Leigh Walton of Nashville; brother, Wyatt Henry Walton, III (Janet) of Huddleston, Va.; sister-in-law, Catherine Wynkoop, Pine Ridge, N.Y.; many nieces, nephews; relatives; and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Wyatt Henry Walton, Jr.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 12 at the Southport Congregational Church, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. Interment will be at a later date at Bethesda Methodist Church in Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Southport Congregational Church, 524 Pequot Ave., Southport or the Westport Historical Society, 25 Avery Place, Westport.
