Robert Myer, 48, Westport Police Officer

NEWTOWN, Conn. — Robert A. Myer, a resident of Newtown and a Westport police officer, died Wednesday, May 4. He was 48.

He was born on Sept.11, 1967, in Norwalk, to James and Evelyn Link Myer.

He had been a resident of Newtown for the past 11 years. He grew up in Westport and was a graduate of Staples High School and Sacred Heart University. He served the Westport community, his hometown, for more than 23 years as a member of the Westport Police Department.

He joined the department as an intern in 1991 and was hired as a full time officer in 1992. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in 2014 and to the rank of Sergeant in 2015. Upon receiving this promotion, he was assigned as a supervisor in the Patrol Division. Most recently, he served as a member of the Newtown Police Commission.

He is survived by his wife, Beth; his daughters Lindsay and Amber; his son, Robert Jr.; stepchildren, Emily and Brian Montoya; three brothers, Edward (Gail), Richard (Laura) and David (Karen); and his sister, Elizabeth Petroni (Kevin).

He was predeceased by his brother, James.

Visitation will be Monday, May 9, from 4-8 p.m., at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, Church Hill Road, Newtown. Interment will be private.
