Richard L. Sylander, 81, Former Longtime Westport Resident

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Richard L. Sylander of Bridgeport died Wednesday, July 17. He was 81.

Sylander was born Dec. 21, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., son of William and Isabel (Tamala) Sylander. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelors degree in business. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner of R.L. Sylander Associates Inc. and was a resident of Westport for 44 years prior to moving to Bridgeport one year ago. He was a member of the Westport Y's Men and a former volunteer with Meals on Wheels and a former member of the St. Luke Church Choir.

Sylander is survived by his wife, Natacha (Danksha) Sylander; son, Richard L. Sylander Jr. of Fairfield; daughters, Karen A. Sylander of Chicago Ill., and Elizabeth D. Sylander of Commack, N.Y.; and a grandson. He was predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours are Sunday, July 21 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Harding Funeral Home 210 Post Road East, Westrport. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 22 meeting directly at St. Luke Church 84 Long Lots Road, Westport for a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
