WESTPORT, Conn. -- Richard George Gardella, 82, of Westport, husband of Birgith (Marie) Gardella, passed away Sunday, July 5 at home.
Gardella was born April 12. 1933, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and has been a resident of Westport since 1968. He graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and obtained his Masters in Business from New York University.
Gardella was employed by Mobil Oil Corporation for most of his career and retired as an executive.
Gardella volunteered for many organizations. He was an advisor to the Staples Young Engineers Club, was a board member for the Westport Science and Engineering Fair, a driver for the Red Cross, a board member for the Town of Westport, a member of the Y’s Men of Westport/Weston and a member of the Nutmeg chapter of retired Mobil employees.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 59 years, include a daughter Karen Jean Robinson, her husband, James and two grandchildren Richard James (RJ) and Isabel Marie of Woodbury.
In addition to his parents, Gardella also was predeceased by one sister Joan Kennedy.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Church, 84 Long Lots Road, Westport.
Calling hours will take place from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday in the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road E., Westport.
