Breaking News: Fairfield County Woman, 40, Sentenced To Prison For Two Fraud Schemes

Ranald 'Ran' McNeil, 79, Longtime Weston Resident

WESTON, Conn. – Ranald "Ran" Trask McNeil, a longtime Weston resident, died Jan. 5. He was 79.

He was born July 26, 1933, in Bridgeport to Kenneth H. McNeil and Susan M. Jennings Kugeman. He attended the Berkshire School and Columbia University. A veteran of the Korean War, he married Enid Goelet of New York City and Stowe, Vt., in 1955.

They lived in Brandon, Vt., and several years later moved their young family to Newtown. He later married Iris Keenan and they made their home in Weston and East Wallingford, Vt. Both marriages ended in divorce.

McNeil was an expert in genealogy, land title research and land acquisition, development and conservation. His family said he was a competitive yachtsman, accomplished pilot, expert skier and car enthusiast. He spent the last few years coordinating the restoration of a Nevins 40 classic sailboat with his son.

McNeil is survived by three daughters, Maura McNeil, of Bridgeport, Ranna McNeil, of Orcas Island, Wash., and Dayna L. Johnson, of Atlanta; a son, Christian G. McNeil, of Weston; three sisters, Susan Soprano, of Sarasota, Fla., Evelin Henry, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Jean Kovacs, of Deland, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Fiona McNeil.

A memorial gathering will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Fayerweather Yacht Club in Bridgeport. Spear-Miller Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
