Newtown Mom Laura Schrader Dies After Battling Brain Cancer, 46

Laura Schrader of Newtown died at home with her family March 7 after a three-year battle with brain cancer. She was 46 years old.

Laura was born in Delaware on May 1, 1971 to David and Barbara Harlacker. She moved to Monroe in 1977. 

Laura graduated from Masuk High School in 1989 and was in the National Honor Society. She graduated from Lehigh University in 1993 with a degree in engineering and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. 

Laura worked professionally at Clairol, Bristol Meyers Squibb and Dade Behring. She earned her MBA degree from the University of Connecticut in 2001.

A devoted mother, Laura left her business career to raise her children. Laura became a Certified yoga instructor in 2003 after completing the 200-hour certification program from Kripalu. She founded her own yoga business and successfully balanced her family life and yoga business.

She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband for 20 years, Tom Schrader; children Mitchell and Ashley; brother, Steven Harlacker and his wife Amy; and by her aunt and godmother Diane Sisk and her family. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on March 14 at the St. Rose of Lima Church at 11 a.m.

Interment will be at St. Rose Cemetery privately.
