Nancy 'Nance' Long, 86, Formerly Of Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – Nancy “Nance” Kline Long, formerly of Westport, died Oct. 6 in Fairfield. She was 86. 

Long was born in Lancaster, Pa., to A. John and Gertrude Kline. She was married to Edward “Bud” Long, who predeceased her. She enjoyed recounting memories with her grandchildren, preparing meals, shopping, visits from her daughters and going to Compo Beach. 

At the age of 84, Long decided to change the spelling of her name from Nancy to Nance, and left that on her answering machine for all to know. 

She is survived by three daughters, Linda (John) Flanigan, of Cromwell, Conn., Becky Bowes, of Sandy Hook, Conn., and Sallie Colarossi, of Fairfield; two sisters, Joanne Artz, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Cynthia (John) Clare, of Sharpley, Del.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Church in Westport. Interment will be private. Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
