Gilbertie was born in Westport, to Lillian and John S. Gilbertie, Sr. He was a former president of the Westport Lions Club and a longtime member of the Assumption Church.
Gilbertie is survived by his wife, Beatrix DeFreese Gilbertie; son, Brian (Cinzia) of Reading, Mass.; daughter, Linda (Tom) Grace of Fairfield; step-daughter, Yvette DeFreese (Maurice) Pluijmen of the Netherlands; stepson, Jonathan DeFreese (Corey) of Brookline, Mass..; five grandchildren; brother, Anthony Gilbertie (Diane) of Westport; numerous nieces, nephews; cousins; and friends. He was predeceased by his parents.
Calling hours are Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, Westport. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Church of the Assumption, 98 Riverside Ave., Westport.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice in Gilbertie’s honor.
