Mary Janet R. Stefan, 64, Worked For The Westport Police Department

WESTPORT, Conn. - Mary Janet Rogers Stefan of Westport died Saturday, May 3. She was 64.

Stefan was born May 3, 1950, in Norwalk, and was the daughter of Robert and Maggie Rogers. She was a lifelong resident of Westport, and was a Staples High School graduate, Class of 1968. She went on to attend Berkeley Business School in New York City and received her associate's degree at Fairfield University.

After holding several administrative positions in various prestigious companies in New York City, Connecticut and San Francisco, she accepted a position in the Westport Police Department in 2002. She was the secretary to the Detective Bureau and also worked as an administrator of the Records Department until her passing.

She volunteered with the Westport Police Athletic League (P.A.L) and helped organize the Westport Police Athletic League Golf Tournament annually since 2002. She also volunteered at Norwalk Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation, the Westport Historical Society and the school store at Bedford Middle School.

Stefan is survived by her son, Ben Stefan; stepchildren, Lori Torrano (Peter) of Norwalk, Christopher W. Stefan of Norwalk, Helen Stefan Moreau (Francois) of Chevy Chase, Md., and David W. Stefan of Arlington, Va.; two grandchildren; and siblings, Marcy Dunn Ramsey, Robert B. Rogers, Jr., Lucy Montgomery, Martin Rogers and Jacqueline Rogers. She was predeceased by his parents; and husband, William Stefan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 8, at Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Ave., Westport.
