Joseph M. Matis, 80, Of Westport, Worked At Westport Bowling Lanes

WESTPORT, Conn. - Joseph M. Matis of Westport died Saturday, Oct. 19. He was 80.

Matis born in Southport, he was a Westport resident for 49 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed at Westport Bowling Lanes for over 20 years.

Matis is survived by his wife, Bertha (Stahursky) Matis; son, Kevin J. Matis (Sabrina) of Stratford; brother, Thomas Matis (Frances); sister, Helen Matis, all of Southport; a grandson; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, George, John and Walter Matis; and sisters, Florence Kaczegowicz and Ann Bensey.

Calling hours are Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral services are Thursday, Oct. 24 at 9:30 a.m. from the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road and at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors, will follow in Assumption Greens Farms Cemetery in Westport.
