WESTPORT, Conn. James E. Barber of Westport died June 18. He was 48.
Born Nov. 9, 1963, in Bridgeport, he was the son of Elizabeth Prendergast Barber and the late Ronald "Red" Barber. He attended Southern Connecticut State University and later moved to New York City, where he attended Columbia University and New York University.
Barber was formerly employed by Greenpeace, Margolis Group Home and Bailey House in New York City. He most recently was employed by the Gillespie Center in Westport as the evening shift intake supervisor.
He traveled extensively to Europe, especially Ireland. He also traveled the United States from coast to coast several times. Barber was an accomplished guitarist and collector of guitars.
Barber is survived by his mother, Betty; two brothers, Ron and Michael Barber; three sisters Lynn Erazmus, Patricia (Robert Nickle) Barber and Janet (Gregory) Gunter; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday at Cyril Mullins Funeral Home in Trumbull. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday. Burial will be private.
