OCALA, Fla. - Jack Lewis Schrier of Ocala, Fla., a former Westport resident, died May 24. He was 72.
Schrier was born Nov. 7, 1940, in Kalamazoo, Mich., to Nelson and Trudy Schrier. Following his graduation from Kalamazoo University High School, he attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Hope College in Holland, Mich., and Georgetown University in Washington D.C., where he received his doctorate in Arabic history and culture. A U.S. Army veteran, he spent most of his career in international finance banking, while living in Westport and Ridgefield. In Ocala, he was a member of St. Paul’s UMC’s choir.
Schrier is survived by his wife, Diane Schrier; son, Eric Schrier of Virginia; daughters, Rebecca Schrier, Washington D.C., Jillian Schrier, Gainesville; brother, Mike (Lorna) Schrier, Montgomery, Ala.; many cousins; and other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, and brother, Billy Schrier.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. June 15 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
