Eugene Cizynski, 90, Formerly Of Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – Eugene Cizynski, formerly of Westport, died Monday, Feb.22. He was 90.

He attended Power Memorial High School in New York City, where he played basketball and baseball, winning the city championship as a pitcher. He was recruited by the New York Yankees, but joined the U.S. Marine Corps to serve in World War II. During the war, he was in the Squadron VMSB-244, flying in the Curtis Helldiver as a gunner/radioman. 

After the war, he graduated from Seton Hall University and spent most of his career with the New York Public School system as a teacher. He also was a guidance counselor and assistant principal at Junior High School 104 in Manhattan.

He is survived by his children, Elizabeth and her husband Lowell Wallace, Eugene B. Jr., Mark and his wife Linda, Joseph and his wife Elizabeth and Gerald; grandchildren, Lowell and Anthony Wallace and Rachel, Nicole, Katlin, Kyle and Jillian Cizynski; and great-grandchildren, Madeline and Patrick Wallace.

He was predeceased by his wife, Anastasia Elizabeth Demarest Cizynksi.
